Despite the existence of stringent laws in the country, more cases of the abuse of domestic maids are being reported.
This time, three Indonesian maids fled their employer’s house after alleged abuse by a Tan Sri. The three poor women escaped from their employer’s bungalow in Country Heights with the help of an unknown man who promptly brought them to the Indonesian embassy to seek assistance.
A report in The Star stated that Kajang OCPD Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof confirmed in a statement released on March 29 that the embassy officials made a police report with regard to the abuse on March 22.
“Preliminary investigations showed that they ran away after being unable to put up with the rough treatment by the employer and his Puan Sri wife.”
“All three claimed they were punched and slapped, as well as had their pay and passports withheld,” he said, according to The Star.
The three ladies escaped by climbing over the fence of their employer’s house and rushed to the Indonesian embassy.
ACP Ahmad Dzaffir said that the police seized two passports and an i-card belonging to the victims which were held by the suspect’s secretary. Following a protection order by the Magistrate Court, the women were sent to a safe-house pending further investigations.
We wish the three ladies a speedy recovery from their unfortunate ordeal.
